The Gran Turismo series has a very long history. The first game came out in 1997, and it was an instant hit with gamers. When the second one came out, Gran Turismo had quickly become Sony & Polyphony Digital's best console racing game. Since then, the series has had several games that broke records, but it has also had to keep up with a lot more and better competition in the simulation racing game space. Unfortunately, the Gran Turismo series has only just caught up. The release of Gran Turismo 7 shows that the problems first seen in Gran Turismo Sport have finally come to a head.

Like the last few Gran Turismo games, Gran Turismo 7 begins with a look back at the sports history & car industry. This book has everything from the actual start of the car in a small Ford factory to how Aston Martin changed motorsports and much more. It's an excellent way to remember how far the business has come. After this first trip down memory lane comes one of the longest and least exciting cutscenes the franchise has ever made. Players see scenes of beautiful cars and track tours for a long time, and then they are thrown right into the action. Of reading.

However, Gran Turismo 7 is a clear example of a feature that sounds way better than it is. No one wants to read through a whole lecture's worth of paperwork before and after races. It gets old. It makes the "story mode" for a single-player rather uninteresting. Visual novels and role-playing games are the best places for essays.

Considering all of this, it's clear that driving in Gran Turismo 7 is one of the best racing game in the games series & business. The vehicles moved by touching them, and the physics is a nice mix of severe simulation and casual arcade racing. There are a lot of settings, switches, and toggles that players can flip and set to make the driving experience just right, and the track rules are as strict as they are fair. It isn't even close to the hard-core simulation games. Like Assetto, Corsa has perfected, but it feels much more natural and accurate than games like Grid while still being fun and lighthearted. On the road, cars feel heavy and switching paint seriously affects the controller. If you brake too hard, the car's back end will swing around because of inertia, and if you try to make hand-brake turns without steering, you will crash. It is great!

Even though the DualSense haptic triggers on the PlayStation 5 still feel like little more than a gimmick. Gran Turismo does an excellent job of using the console's features. Small details like the stitching on the leather seats and the grain of wood on the dashboards of the few cars with wood dashboards are all perfectly shown. Also, thanks to the power of the PlayStation 5's hardware, reflections are finally good enough that you can't tell if you're looking at the real thing or a thought. Most first-place wins don't feel like much, and after hours of tournament play, the winnings aren't even enough to buy half a car. Online sleuthing proves that these imbalances are actual and shows how bad the winnings are compared to previous games in the series and how bad they are compared to winnings after buying boosters and currency packs. Nothing is worse than beating an entire tournament in a racing game and still feeling like you didn't do enough. The publisher's pushy style has finally ruined the experience—a terrible disappointment for an otherwise good new entry in the series.
