Haiku The Robot sticks very closely to the rules for moody "Metroidvania" games. It doesn't take any risks and isn't particularly interesting in any way. Even though the idea isn't very original, the developer does a good job with the level design and tight action.
As the player goes deeper into the game, the way it starts and develops becomes more and more interesting. Haiku The Robot has a lot of mystery to it, like many of the books and movies that inspired it. Haiku is a robot, and he lives with other robots in a grim world. Humans have been gone for a long time, and the Haiku want to find the ones who made them.
The junkyards and abandoned buildings that nature has taken over are huge, and the level design is varied with platforms and winding passageways. Moving through the areas has a natural flow, and Haiku's weapon has a satisfying pushback that can also be used as a bounce against enemies and even hazards with sharp edges.
As usual, players will be searching through a labyrinth and running into dead ends and locked doors. Haiku will find power-ups and skills that give him more room to move, so he can move forward and fight big bosses.
Haiku The robot might not do anything new, and it's not very hard either. At times, it's almost too ordinary, and the only thing that makes this game stand out is the way it looks.
The number of colors was chosen on purpose. This helps the theme of the environment and makes it easy for players to connect certain areas with their colors.
The problem with using only a few colors is that the theme will get very repetitive and boring to look at. Some of the backgrounds could have stood out more and had more detail if more work had been put into them. Haiku The robot sometimes looks like it's not done.
There is a lot wrong with how the characters look. Even though most of the characters are supposed to be robots, most of them could be anyone.
Haiku, in particular, looks like something Kirby could have seen. He is fat and has tiny hands and feet, but no other body parts.
Haiku isn't very expressive and doesn't have a very interesting shape. The best thing about him is that his hit box is small and tight, and his attack range is wide and sweeping.
Like Hollow Knight, Haiku The Robot's melee is very well balanced and requires players to think about a bit of a delay between swings and knockbacks.
The game's creator must have spent a lot of time thinking about how to make the combat feel the same. Haiku The Robot strikes a good balance, and the result is a game that feels like a kid-brother version of Team Cherry's opus.
Haiku The robot game is much shorter and simpler than the big boy insect game.The best way to describe the game is that it makes it easier for kids to learn how to play complex search-and-find action-platformers that look like mazes.
The 10- to 12-hour adventure is full of little nods and references that kids will enjoy. Most of the time, the music is happy, but sometimes it sounds scary. The tone is just right so that it won't be too much for kids.
Haiku The Robot doesn't feel like a copy of Hollow Knight because Mister Morris Games got ideas from it instead of copying it.
This "metroidvania" feels different enough from other games in the same genre because it isn't set in a dark place that feels like the end of the world. Fans of the genre who want something a little less serious should check it out.
Haiku The Robot can feel forgettable at worst because it follows the same formula every time. Its art style is just okay, but it's one of the better "Metroidvania" games because it's easy to play and the controls feel good.v
