Monster Sanctuary Game Review

Monster Sanctuary is a game about taming monsters in a world where more and more games are like Pokemon, the most popular one. Monster Sanctuary, on the other hand, mixes things up by combining the Pokemon idea of capturing and fighting with creatures with the exploration style of metroidvania games.
This seems like a match made in heaven, but can developer Moi Rai Games make it happen?

Monster Sanctuary starts with a quick summary of the world and how humans and monsters live together, which is usually not well. They say that unless you are a monster keeper, the world outside the sanctuary is dangerous because wild animals will attack.
This isn't a problem for your character, who is both a monster keeper and a member of one of four families with a spectral familiar that has been passed down from generation to generation. Here is where you choose your first monster from a list of four that look and act differently.
Most of the story in Monster Sanctuary is pretty simple and not all that interesting. The world has been calm, but when more champion monsters show up, people start to wonder if something strange is going on. It's up to you to figure out what's going on, and if you do, you'll have to fight a group of bad people.
You'll also be joined by three other characters who represent the three other families you didn't select at the start of the game.They're not very deep, but they're still pretty good on their own. You also don't talk to them very often, so you don't really get close to them over the course of the story.
But it's the game play and exploration that really set Monster Sanctuary apart.You don't have to follow just one path in the story, and you can mostly go at your own pace. Being a metroidvania, there will be times when you need to find a key or a certain monster to get past an obstacle. But it's never frustrating, and once the pieces start to fit together, it's a lot of fun.
Unlike most metroidvanias, most of the skills you need to get past certain obstacles come from the monsters you defeat. Some of these monsters can fly over gaps or break through hidden walls to get to treasures. This means that every new monster you meet could give you a new place to go back to.
But these monsters don't just help you explore the huge world of the game. Just like the many other monster-taming games that have come before it, most of the game will be spent with your monsters fighting other monsters or even other monster keepers.
This is by far Monster Sanctuary's best part. Most battles are 3 vs. 3, where you can put together a team of three monsters to fight. This lets you use the more than 100 monsters in Monster Sanctuary in a lot of different ways. You can mix and match builds, strategies, and formations.
This game is deep enough that you can focus on trying to get the most out of the strongest monsters because it lets you play in so many different ways. It's also forgiving enough that you can focus on one monster and build successfully around it.
There are, in fact, many ways to make a monster fit your needs and those of the rest of your team. Each monster has its own skill tree, where you can put points into whatever attacks, passives, buffs, or debuffs you want them to learn. Early on, you might be limited by the level requirements, but later on, you can use a skill resetter to give your monsters very powerful builds that you choose.
It's not just about the skill tree. Each monster can also equip weapons and armor to boost their stats. This lets you make them more like physical attackers, tanks, or healers who help other people. As you move through the game, new options come up quickly and feel like they could go on forever.
Monster Sanctuary is a good game in general, not just as a monster tamer or a metroidvania. Few can beat the fact that you can come up with more than 100 different strategies and builds for their monster cast. When you go exploring, it's always fun to find new places with new monsters to fight and catch. This makes you wonder what new opportunities have opened up.
All of this is combined with great graphics in the game's many different biomes, each of which has its own style when it comes to exploring. The music in the game also keeps your attention from the beginning.
Monster Sanctuary is a must-play for anyone who likes at least one of the different kinds of games it claims to be. Even if you don't like either of these types of games, you should still check it out.
Monster Sanctuary's combat and exploration have a level of depth that few other games can match.
