When it comes to Atlus Games, fans have certain things they want to see in their games. Games like Persona, Shin Megami Tensei, and even Devil Summoner are among the most popular. But when it comes to the newest game, Soul Hackers 2, things take an unexpected turn. After playing the game for hours, we've seen both good and bad things. We at Sirus Gaming will tell you what we know about Atlus's new game and what we think about it.
Soul Hackers 2 is a follow-up to the 1997 game Soul Hackers. This game is a spin-off of the Devil Summoner series, but I don't think you need to play the first one to understand Soul Hackers. This is a brand-new game with a brand-new story and gameplay that works well on high-end consoles like the PS5. Basically, fans of Atlus would want to try this game in 4K quality.
I think that Atlus is trying out new things to get closer to their goal of making games with a 4K resolution. This could help them find problems that need to be fixed in their future games.
The plot of Soul Hackers 2 is very clear, but it also seems to be all over the place. I say this because I sometimes have trouble figuring out where to go and what to do to move the story along. Not only that, but I thought the story moved too quickly and didn't have much to offer. If I had to rate the game's story, I would give it at least a 2.5 out of 5. That's because some parts of the story didn't give enough information about how it got to this point and seemed to be missing. I also noticed that some scenes were hard to see, especially in terms of how each character looked. This made me less interested in reading on with the story.
The game's environments were fun to watch and explore because they were bright and colorful. But Soul Hackers 2's maps and dungeons aren't as open as they could be. Most of the time, the maps are very small and only have a few shops and people to talk to as you walk between them. I still liked walking around and going into shops because it was a good way to feel better after going into the dark dungeons.
Soul Hackers 2 is the second game in the series.
Soul Hackers 2's battle system is a mix of Persona 5 and Shin Megami Tensei V, with their new feature called the Sabbath added. When you use this feature, hitting an enemy's weakness will raise the level of the Sabbath attack, which happens after every character has had a turn. The Sabbath will become stronger as you attack more weaknesses.
This will make you want to try to bring all of the demons' health down to critical at once so that the Sabbath can kill them all at the end. This was a nice change of pace from most RPGs, where the best strategy is usually to focus on one enemy at a time. You also have to be careful about the monsters you equip and try to cover as many weaknesses as you can. Some monsters even have special Sabbath attacks that do extra things when they hit, like heal the party or poison the enemy.
In Soul Hackers 2, boss battles were one of the hardest things to do because I had to find a way to balance my party, figure out what weaknesses they might have, and even farm for money in the game to buy accessories and call new demons to my party.
I find it to be very hard, but I also find it to be very interesting, which helps me keep playing the game. Leveling up and improving your party's skills in different areas like soul level, COMP, demons, and more are worth trying, and it made me realize that this game is a challenge that will show more about how players can adapt to this new world created by Atlus.
Overall, Soul Hackers 2 is a good JRPG that will mostly appeal to people who liked the first game. Even though it lacked some things, like a story, exploring the map, and more, its combat and ways to get stronger are very interesting. I just hope that Atlus can keep making better games and learn to find more problems with this game than the ones I've already mentioned.
