Hotline Miami is a top-down shooter game made by Dennaton Games and released by Devolver Digital. The PC version came out in October 2012, but the Hotline Miami Collection for the Nintendo Switch, which includes the sequel Hotline Miami 2: Wrong Number, came out on August 19.

The events of the story of Hotline Miami occur in the year 1989. You play as a hitman named "Jacket" and move around in his apartment. Every day, "Jacket" gets a message on his answering machine offering him different jobs, which means he has to go out and kill a lot of Russian Mafia.

Hotline Miami 2: Wrong Number, which came out in March 2015, takes place both before and after the events of the first game. It's about the hitman "Jacket" and what happened to him after the first game.

Both games are very violent and have great soundtracks. Hotline Miami was praised by critics, which helped it become a cult video game.

Let's see how well both games work on the Nintendo Switch and if it still holds up!

I'm not going to lie, but I've never played a Hotline Miami game in my life. I do have it on my Steam account, though, so I must have bought it at some point, maybe in a humble bundle deal or something. I had heard great things about the game, though, so I knew I would buy it at some point in the future. I didn't hesitate when I had the chance to review the Hotline Miami Collection on the switch.

Let's start by saying that both games are hard. Both the main character, "Jacket," and the Russian Mafia can be killed with a single shot, so stealth is a big part of both. In the game, your goal is simple: kill everyone by any means necessary and don't die. The mission is over when all of the enemies have been killed.

You can choose not to use guns on your missions and instead use knives, baseball bats, beer cans, etc. The enemies won't be able to hear you, so you can sneak around the levels and kill them without them being able to tell. This will help you finish the mission. Or, if sneaking around isn't your thing, you can go all out and attack everything in sight. Just make sure you don't get hit by anything.

You can also change your animal mask at the start of each mission. This can help you in a lot of ways, such as making attack dogs friendly.

There are 20 chapters in Hotline Miami, and there are 27 in Hotline Miami 2: Wrong Number. After each chapter or scene is over, you get a "grade" (like a B+) that is based on how well you did during that level. These actions are based on your kills, combos, weapons, how quickly you finish the mission, etc.

You should be able to finish all of the chapters in Hotline Miami in about 4-5 hours, and Hotline Miami 2: Wrong Number in about 7-8 hours.

The graphics in Hotline Miami Collection look like they came from a 90s game, which I love. The game's pixelated look takes me back to when I was a child and played games on the classic Sega Mega Drive in the early 1990s. This brings me a lot of joy and great memories. The pixels in the game are nicely colored, and it's easy to follow the trail of blood from all the bodies as you move through the levels.

I thought the music in Hotline Miami Collection was really good. The techno beats fit both games perfectly, and I didn't mind them when I kept dying and had to play through levels again. The sounds of the weapons are also very distinct, and if you use a gun, especially a shotgun, the loud bang will alert your enemies to your location, so be on your guard. The sound fits well with the mood of the game, and when the music suddenly stops, you know you've killed the last enemy on the level and can breathe a sigh of relief.

After finishing both games in the Hotline Miami Collection, I'd say it's a great game that you can play again and again because it's fun and hard. You can jump into the action of the game quickly, even if you only have 20 minutes to spare. I think that these are especially important in our time. There are no other difficulty levels to choose from, so you can't add to this, but another reason to play levels again is to get a higher grade, which can be hard.

So, Callum, how did you like the Hotline Miami Collection on the Switch?

I have to say that I really liked playing the Hotline Miami Collection. I can now say that I'm a big fan, and I'm sure I'll play it again and again. I think the Hotline Miami Collection is perfect for the switch, and I'm surprised it hasn't been released sooner. I can't wait to play it again this weekend and put myself back in "Jacket's" shoes. Good luck to me!

With all of that in mind, I will give the Hotline Miami Collection a Thumb Culture Platinum Award without a second thought.
