Need for Speed Heat Game Review

Need for Speed: Heat saves the series from disaster, but it doesn't make it great again. This generation of the show has been quite a ride. There have been several soft reboots to try to keep it fresh. Rivals was a good PS4 launch game, but things have been getting worse and worse since then. Ghost Games' latest racer gets a lot of things right and gives you a fun place to race, drift, and cruise in style. But there are still a few things that keep it from being great. I like the new Need for Speed, but is it good enough?
Heat is perhaps Ghost's most successful effort to this yet, in our opinion. It mixes together a lot of things from the previous installments of the series, and it gives the impression that it is attempting to fulfill everyone's expectations. You are free to roam the open environment of Palm City, which is packed with a variety of activities, including events, collectibles, and other things to do. You can also follow a plot, personalize your vehicle, and even get followed by the cops in this game. There is a lot happening, and the most of it, to our great relief, works out rather well.
The most crucial aspects of the game take place throughout the day and the night. Both are distinct entities; nonetheless, what makes their relationship so fascinating is the way in which they are intertwined. If you perform well in the day's races and other events, you'll be able to earn money that can be spent on new vehicles, parts, and items that allow for customization. When you change to the night, the focus turns to building reputation, which is essential in the first place in order to access those new vehicles and other stuff. Simply put, in order to achieve meaningful progress, you are going to need to play both sides of the game, and this is a fantastic system. It is a clever approach to prevent things from becoming monotonous, and it is entertaining to observe the back-and-forth movement of needing money to earn more reputation and reputation to get more money.
This mechanic makes sense in the context of the lame story. The Speedhunters Showdown is a racing tournament that takes place in Palm City. The events you take part in during the day are part of the tournament. At the same time, though, illegal street racing is going on. This is what you'll do when the sun goes down, you bad boy. The local police department has set up a special team whose only job is to stop illegal races and other events. The player character, which you can customize with ridiculous clothes at any time, is new in town and quickly makes friends with a mechanic and his street racing sister. The story and characters aren't very interesting, but after the first few story missions, you'll definitely hate the police.
You’ll probably also hate them during chases, as they’re super aggressive. Getting in trouble with the law is unavoidable at night, and is even encouraged by the titular Heat system. If you want to get a lot of rep, raising your heat level works like a multiplier, so you can get up to five times as much. But the more heat you have, the more the police will throw at you, and it can quickly become nearly impossible to get away from them. You won't have much of a chance to fight back because you won't have nearly enough tools to disable the automobiles that are pursuing you. Instead, you'll probably try to cause damage by ramming into them, although this seems like an inefficient way to do it. The worst part is that getting detected will significantly reduce the amount of reputation you have earned, which means that all of the time you spent playing will have been for little to no benefit at all. Your only chance is to get away, at which point you can bank your rep and end the night. It's very annoying.
On the other hand, playing during the day isn't very exciting. You can play races, drift events, time trials, and more, but Palm City isn't as fun to be in during the day. You can make a lot of money quickly, and it's nice to have a break from the cops, but the open world is better at night. In either mode, the map is well-made and pretty big, and in some places it looks great. But, especially during the day, it's not a place that will stay in your mind for long. There are billboards to break, speed gates to beat, and other things to look for, but Palm City does feel pretty empty after a while.
At least it's fun to drive through. The handling of the starting vehicles may first feel incredibly sluggish and cumbersome to operate, but as you upgrade them or buy something better, you'll start to enjoy the way the game plays. It's a touch more realistic than, say, Burnout Paradise, due to the fact that drifting will cause you to lose speed, and you'll occasionally have to lift your foot off the gas pedal and apply the brakes. But sometimes the best way to get around a corner is to drift. The result is still very arcade-like, and throwing cars around can be a lot of fun. The handling works best when it feels different from car to car, and it's even better that you can change how your favorite ride feels to drive by swapping out parts.
One way to customize is to change how the car handles, but it's important to note that this part of the game works well as a whole. It's great that you can change how each car runs to get the most out of it, and you also have a lot of options for how it looks. Not all of the 127 cars can be completely changed, but you can make each one your own with a wide range of body parts, paint jobs, stickers, and more.
The vehicles, which make sense, are probably the best-looking part of the game, but it's too bad there are a few technical problems. When we play online, we often get disconnected, and we saw a few glitches or other things that didn't look right. We think the game will get better as updates come out, but it's pretty rough around the edges right now.
Need for Speed: Heat is, as we said, the best game in the series in a long time, but it's still not quite where it needs to be. The day/night loop is a fun way to play, and it's a big step forward for the series as a whole. It's a good game with fun controls and lots of ways to make it your own. Even though the open world isn't very interesting and the police might be a little too tough, there's still a lot to like. Need for Speed is returning to form at the end of this generation. Let's hope it can become great in the future.
