Destroy All Humans 2 Game Review
Check out these awesome new games Soul Hackers 2, Life Is Strange True Colors.
When the first remake of Destroy All Humans! took over the last generation of consoles, Black Forest Games gave the cult classic the remake it finally deserved.
I've had fun playing as Cryptosporidium again, zapping everyone in the street with my Zap-O-Matic, melting the US Army and agents of the secret Majestic to their bones with my saucer's death ray, and sneaking into enemy bases as one of them with the Holobob. The story isn't as good as The Last of Us or Assassin's Creed, but the toilet humor, jokes that have more than one meaning, and fun gameplay make Destroy All Humans! crazy fun.
THQ Nordic didn't hesitate to give Black Forest Games the job of remaking the sequel to Destroy All Humans! Kill Everyone 2!Reprobed is here, and I'm hopeful about how things will turn out.
Kill Everyone 2!Reprobed might not be for people who are looking for a game with gameplay as captivating or cinematic as God of War or Marvel's Spider-Man. No, kill everyone!gives up on serious plot twists and gameplay in favor of a sandbox where things are more crazy and chaotic. You have a lot of ways to kill people, like using your Zap-O-Matic to shock them or your Anal Probe to get inside their bodies. Crypto's telekinesis lets you throw your enemies into the air, and you can even read their minds to find out what they are thinking.
Your goals can sometimes be the same. You either have to kill a boss-like target, destroy certain buildings or factories, or keep enemies away for a certain amount of time. These may sound boring, but the different ways you can use your arsenal and skills make the whole experience unique, unlike the original game from 2006, where you could only do a few things. Now, you can use telekinesis on enemies while zapping others at the same time. You can even use the infamous anal probe and switch to the disintegrator ray without affecting the rectal penetration.
It's a simple alien chaos simulator that gives you a tool for mass destruction and tells you to have fun.
Reprobed is not a copy-and-paste remake of the original cult classic from 2006. Instead, Black Forest Games made a few smart creative decisions that made Reprobed's story similar but its appearance distinct. So, what do I mean? Reprobed's cutscenes are completely different from the original, and I think they're a lot more fun, even though 99% of the dialogue is the same.
If you played the original mission to find Coyote Bongwater, a middle-aged man who works for the Russians, you'll remember that KGB agents tried to shoot our Furon main character before he jumped out of the building. In Reprobed, the enemies tried to throw a grenade at Crypto, but he used his telekinesis to throw it back at the KGB.
I also like how things have changed when you get new weapons. Black Forest Games made sure that the new bombastic weapons you unlock in Reprobed are shown off in slow-motion cutscenes where the weapons are used. These scenes are stylish, cinematic, cool, and it's satisfying to get those guns to destroy humanity.
Reprobed has nothing but beautiful visuals. The level of detail in the game, from Crypto's bobbly head to the cartoonish look of the NPCs to small details like a strand of hair, makes the game look very good. You'll even fall in love with Natalya Ivanova's new look, which is even more beautiful and charming.
The beautiful scenery is another thing that makes Reprobed stand out. You can see how much better the graphics are compared to the first game, especially when you unlock the Takoshima location and see the Sakura trees blooming everywhere. It's a beautiful scene.
I even spent a few hours using Reprobed's Photo Mode to take pictures in-game, especially during battle, and I got a lot of funny and epic shots. It's worth noting that if you like photo modes, you'll like them in Reprobed too.
Reprobed has a lot of late '60s music that you'll love if you're a music lover like me. Classic songs get stuck in your head so that you start to nod along with the beat. Happened to me a few times after I unlocked some of the songs in the game's jukebox from the main menu.
Like the music tracks, you can change the look of your flying saucer by changing its skin. With the Dressed to Skill edition, you can get a few Crypto and saucer skins right away, and some of the other skins can be unlocked by completing certain missions. I give Black Forest Games a lot of credit for adding new customization options that let me fly my ship with a hippie design or one that looks like it came right out of Furon hell.
Reprobed doesn't have a very high level of polish when it comes to the whole game. Some glitches are funny, like when NPCs and vehicles go out of their way and straight through a building. Destroy All Humans! wouldn't be the same game without them, but I had to restart one mission three times because the game didn't seem to count the kills I needed. This was how the Shama Llama was set free from the police. Before I could talk to Llama, the mission told me to kill a certain number of cops, but even though I killed more than was asked of me, I still couldn't talk to him.
You'll also notice right away that the screen tears during fast-moving cutscenes, as if the game doesn't have vertical sync, and that assets load slowly after switching scenes.
Kill All People 2! Reprobed might not be the most polished game on the market, but the open world you can keep exploring and the chaos you can cause are both beautiful and fun. I would have given the game an 11/10 if it weren't for the mission glitch and a few other small problems. Reprobed was fun, and I would love to see a much better sequel from Black Forest Games than Big Willy Unleashed and Path of the Furon.
